IRSE near you
The IRSE recognises that the exchange of ideas and information is critical to both the industry and also to an individual’s own career success.
Local Activities
Outside the UK, there are sections in Australasia, Hong Kong, India, The Netherlands, North America, Singapore, Southern Africa and Switzerland. Each section organises its own activities and liaises with the main IRSE organisation on membership matters and the organisation of technical visits and conventions.
Within the UK, there are five provincial sections: The Midland and North Western section holds meetings generally in Birmingham, Crewe, Derby or Manchester. The Western section meets in Chippenham, Swindon or Bristol. The Scottish section meets in Glasgow. The other sections are based in York and Plymouth. There is also a section specialising in Minor Railways. Each section organises its own programme of events such as informative lectures, technical visits and social events. Membership of the local section allows you to find out about developments in the industry and opportunities that might benefit members.
Social Functions
The Institution also holds regular social functions that include a Members Lunch and the IRSE Dinner which follows the AGM and has an eminent Guest Speaker.
Younger Members
The Younger Members also hold meetings, conferences and technical visits aimed specifically at engineers undertaking their initial training and development. Membership is automatic for all members of the Institution up to the age of 35.
